This morning we decided to go down to where the island narrows and two crescent beaches almost meet. The forests here are very different from what we are used to and even what we've seen on the Overland Track. It can be pretty distracting, and that's probably why we didn't see the tiger snake until we basically were on top of him. Jono was observant, though and held us back while he said all the words you would likely say, at the same time. None of them were "SNAKE!" which we later agreed was probably the best one for future encounters. No words are needed, when there's a hand dragging you back, though. Jono definitely defused the encounter early. The snake slithered away and we managed to get a picture before he left.

Maria Island

After our Hobart experience we drove to Tribunna. Tribunna is a tiny town with a jetty for fishingboats and ferries/cruise ships and yachts. We got to the ferry in time to hastily repack our bags and use the bathroom. When the ferry came in, another party were lining their gear up on the jetty. They had their stuff in cardboard boxes, ikea bags, coolers and dufflebags and they had a ton of it. I was thinking that they must have been nuts to haul that kind of baggage around, especially considering their rather advanced case of aging.
